Membership Category
Membership Criteria
FULL MEMBER
Full Members must either (1) hold a Doctorate in Psychology, (2) be licensed as a psychologist in the State of California, or (3) be a Diplomat of the American Board of Professional Psychology. (For the purposes of determining CPA member status, Licensed Educational Psychologists are accepted on the same basis as Licensed Psychologists.)
NEW MEMBER
New CPA members must meet the same membership requirements as full members.
NEW DOCTORATE/
EARLY CAREER

New Doctorate/Early Career members must meet the same membership requirements as full Members, except they will have received their Doctorate within the last five years. Those meeting this requirement receive a discount off Member dues.
ASSOCIATE
Associate members are persons who hold a Master's Degree in Psychology or the equivalent. If you are a matriculating student, you may apply as a student.
STUDENT
Student members are matriculating students in a psychology graduate program, or postdoctoral fellows in an organized psychology training program within a clinic, hospital, industrial or university setting.
OUT OF STATE
Out-of-state members shall include all persons who meet the membership requirements but who live outside the state of California and wish to participate in CPA.
AFFILIATE
Affiliate members shall consist of those persons with an interest in psychology such as, but not limited to, certified para professionals, members of allied professions, high school teachers of psychology, or members of the general public with an interest in psychology.
LIFE MEMBER
Life Membership shall include those individuals 65 or older who have held membership in the Association for 20 years or more, or who, regardless of age or length of participation, are adjudged to be totally and permanently disabled. Life Members retain the rights and privileges of CPA of the class of membership held prior to becoming Life members.

Special Category Status

Any member who has been accepted for full membership, but who because of temporary adverse circumstance is exeriencing lowered earnings and is unable to pay full dues, may apply for special category membership.
